Introduction
Facebook has made it notoriously difficult to permanently delete your account, more often leading you to ‘deactivate’ instead of simple remove it. This post will explain two different ways to do so.
WAY 1 – The Fast Way – Email Facebook directly
1. Send an email to privacy@facebook.com, requesting your account to be deleted
2. Wait a few days for a response. You should get an email confirming that your account has been permanently removed
3. It’s been a week and no response? – email them again. This time send it to privacy@facebook.com, support@facebook.com and info@facebook.com for good measure
4. Once an email from Facebook has been received, try and log in to your account. If you can’t log in and do not get a message asking you to re-activate, then you’re set!
Your account has now been deleted.
WAY 2 – The Longer Way
1. Go to https://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account and log in. You should see this on your screen:
2. Click ‘submit’
3. A new page will pop up, requiring you to enter your password and an image captcha – this is to verify that you are the real owner of the account. For example:
4. Click ‘submit’
5. Do NOT log in or connect, in any way, with your Facebook account.
You should receive an email alerting you that your account will be deleted in 2 weeks (14 days), and any interaction with your account could prevent it from being deleted.
Tips:
- Clear your browser cache and remove cookies
- Don’t click ‘share’ or ‘like’ on any website you may come across
- Don’t ‘connect to’ or ‘login’ to any website you may come across
6. Wait it out for the 2 weeks required and your account will be made permanently inaccessible.
